Back To The Grand Ole Opry

The 7th annual “History of Country Music” show will be presented during the Friday and Saturday evenings of November 9th & 10th at 7:00 pm on the Farmington Centene Center stage.

The theme for last year’s performance (music from the classic period of the Grand Ole Opry) was so popular that this year’s show is billed as “Back to the Grand Ole Opry.” All new music will be chosen from that same time period for this upcoming show, but will also featuring Opry hits from the decade of the 1970’s. 

This once-a-year concert set is similar to the Centene Center’s “Baby Boomer Reunion Concert” series that has been held the first weekend in August for the past 16 years and is still going strong. Both concerts feature outstanding musicians with many differing backgrounds who have local ties to the surrounding area. The major difference in the structure of the two shows is that the “History of Country Music” only utilizes one band throughout the evening instead of switching musicians on every song. For variety, this show does feature a different vocalist or set of vocalists on each song. 
The band backing up the singers is a full-sized studio country band that can play all of the varying styles throughout the first half of the Grand Ole Opry’s history. The instrumentation will include acoustic and electric guitars, pedal steel guitar, fiddle, banjo, piano, bass and drums.

The musical goal of the “History of Country Music” is to stay true to the authenticity and sound of the original recordings on which the concert is based and to present the music in the same manner as it would have sounded when first performed by the original artists.

Reserved seat tickets go on sale for both shows beginning Monday, October 1st at the Farmington Civic Center. Ticket sales for the first three hours of that day (8-11 a.m.) will be dedicated to those customers purchasing tickets in person at the Farmington Civic Center. Tickets can be ordered over the phone (573-756-0900) beginning at 11 a.m. that same Monday morning and any time after that leading up to the actual performances.
