Voices of the Past: Downtown Cemetery Tour
Join us for a Historic Cemetery Tour in Downtown Farmington this October.
Begin your evening at the old St. Francois County Jail, now the Farmington History Museum, where you will explore the history of the jail and examine artifacts that have been collected since the 1800’s.
Your next stop will be the north lawn of the jail, where you will learn about the storied past of the building. Don’t turn a deaf ear to this part of the tour. You might just learn a true-crime detail that will surprise you!
Next you will board a horse drawn carriage and take a guided tour through Downtown Farmington to the Masonic and Old Calvary Cemeteries. You will disembark at the entrance to the Masonic cemetery on Washington Street.
Docents will be at the two-hundred-year-old cemetery portraying or presenting narratives of the deceased, including some of Farmington's founding figures. No need to worry about getting lost under the moonlight, your docent knows the way.
Once the cemetery portion of the tour concludes, you will board the next available carriage from Washington Street for the second half of the guided tour through Downtown Farmington. The tour will conclude at the old St. Francois County Jail.
Tours will commence approximately every fifteen minutes beginning at 4:30PM and will take approximately one hour to complete. The final carriage will board at 7:45PM. This is a free event, and tours will be given on a first-come first-serve basis. No reservations will be made.
Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. In the event of severe weather, the presentations will be given at Long Memorial Hall.
