Vice President of Operations

Position Summary
The Vice President of Operations (COO) at Mineral Area College plays a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the operational functions of the institution. Reporting directly to the college President, the COO is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient operation of all administrative and support functions to support the college's mission and strategic objectives.  Reporting directly to the COO: Executive Assistant, Campus Safety Officer, Auxiliary Services Director (Shooting Range, MAC Store, Food Service), Title IX Coordinator, and General Services Director.
 
Key Performance Indicators
1.      Successful creation and implementation of a Strategic Operational Management Plan
2.      Bi-annual efficiency reports on all areas of focus
3.      Emergency Operations Plan
4.      Development of Master Facilities Plan
 
Essential Functions

  1. Strategic Planning: Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement operational strategies aligned with the college's mission, vision, and goals.
  2. Operational Management: Oversee day-to-day operations of various departments, as listed in the Position Summary.
  3. Inventory Control: Oversee equipment and supplies and process according to policy.
  4. Risk Management: Identify potential risks and implement strategies to mitigate them. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and accreditation standards.
  5. Facilities Management: Oversee the maintenance and management of campus facilities, ensuring a safe and conducive environment for students, faculty, and staff.  Fleet management and travel policy will be included.
  6. Collaboration and Communication: Foster a culture of collaboration and communication across departments and stakeholders. Serve as a liaison between different departments and senior leadership.
  7. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiency. Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance organizational effectiveness.
  8. Community Engagement: Represent the college in various community and professional settings. Build relationships with external stakeholders, including government agencies, industry partners, and community organizations.
  9. Financial Performance: Monitor and assess the financial performance and forecasting for areas of supervision and future planning.
  10. Environmental Stewardship: Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance organizational effectiveness and environmental stewardship.
  11. Safety: Update the emergency operations plan on an annual basis, complete and submit reports required by local, state, and federal agencies.  Maintain safety presence on campus.

Experience
Education:
· Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Engineering, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
 
Work Experience:
 
· Proven experience in senior management or executive leadership roles, preferably in higher education, healthcare, or related field.  5 years’ experience preferred.
· Experience in financial management, budgeting, and strategic planning.
· Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
· Demonstrated ability to think strategically, solve complex problems, and drive results.
· Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.
· Experience in change management and organizational development.
 
Industry Knowledge:
             ·       Environmental systems (HVAC-R)
·         OSHA Certification
·         Familiarity with relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies impacting higher education institutions. Ability to ensure compliance with laws related to Title IX, ADA, FERPA, Clery Act, and other applicable regulations.
·         Awareness of environmental regulations and initiatives to promote energy efficiency and environmental stewardship on campus.
·         HAZMAT regulations and requirements.
·         Local, state, and federal reporting requirements.
·         Ensure compliance of bid process at Mineral Area College.
 
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
·         Bend, reach, and stoop to operate equipment and handle tools and materials.
·         Lift up to fifty (50) pounds and carry or push cart with tools and equipment weighing seventy-five (75) pounds.
·         Perform activities requiring good balance such as climbing and maneuvering on stairs, ladders, and scaffolds frequently on uneven surfaces.
·         Maneuver on stairs and uneven or soft surfaces such as grassy, icy, or unpaved areas.
·         Perceive environmental alerting sounds such as alarms, equipment operating, paging, and telephones.
·         Respond to a scene quickly on foot.
·         Move from room to room, building to building, and worksite to worksite daily.
·         Stand and/or work on feet up to three (3) hours at a time.
·         Discriminate size, shape, temperature, color, and/or texture of objects and detect odors daily.
·         Discern visual depth relationships, both close and long range.
